The gateway route is a great way to fast track onto the CIMA Professional Qualification and earn the highly valued CGMA designation.
This fast track route enables eligible individuals to progress directly to the final level of the CIMA Professional Qualification (Strategic level), upon passing the CIMA Gateway Exam. The CIMA Gateway Exam is also known as the Management Case Study exam for those not on the accelerated route.
There are three possible paths within the gateway entry route:
- Master's Gateway route
Open to individuals who hold an MBA or Master's Degree in Accounting.
- Professional Gateway route
Open to members and passed finalists of professional bodies which are both:- A member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and
- An examining body (e.g. ACCA, SAICA, etc.)

Management Accountant Gateway route
Open to members and passed finalists of these professional bodies:- Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).
- Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP).
- Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB).

How does the Gateway Exam work?
Eligible individuals are required to take the CIMA Gateway Exam (also known as the Management Level Case Study). The exam is:
- a computer based case study exam
- three hours long & available every February, May, August and November
- assesses knowledge and competencies covered in the Management level (E2/P2/F2) of the CIMA Professional Qualification.
How to Pass Your Gateway/Management Case Study Exams 1st Time

Even though you qualify for the Gateway route, going directly to attend our Gateway Exam course will require that your knowledge of E2, P2 & F2 under the CIMA 2015 syllabus is up to date as the course mainly seeks to apply that knowledge to the case study. Please ensure you review the CIMA 2015 Syllabus for E2, P2 & F2 to confirm that your Master's Degree or Professional Qualification was not only recently obtained but rigorously covered this syllabus. If not, we strongly recommend that you enrol for/take our Tuition & Exam Preparation Package (TEPP -Evenings or Weekends) to help deepen your mastery of E2, P2 & F2 and secure the vital tools you will need on the Gateway course instead of going direct. Experience teaches us that 90% of those who follow our advice pass 1st Time whereas 95% of those who do not often regret it!
Should you follow this advice, note that you will not be required to write the official E2, P2 & F2 CIMA OT Exams as you have been exempted but you can take our internal tests to prepare you ahead of the Gateway course which normally starts 3-4 weeks after.
