Most accounting qualifications train people for private practice, working on external audit and tax issues. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions.

The Qualification (structure)

Exam­i­na­tions

Objec­tive Tests (Oper­a­tional, Man­age­ment and Strate­gic levels)
All Oper­a­tional, Man­age­ment and Strate­gic level PC exams up until the new syl­labus is released in Jan­u­ary 2020, are exam­ined via 90 min­utes computer-​based exams, which are held at Char­terQuest Pear­son VUE Exam Cen­tres. The exams are avail­able on-​demand through­out the year. Book­ing a course with us does not auto­mat­i­cally enter you for the exams; you must make sure you add exam fees dur­ing the book­ing process or book directly on our PC Exams Portal.

Inte­grated Case Study

In addi­tion to sit­ting for your Objec­tive Tests at each level you will need to sit for a 3 hour Case Study PC exam to qual­ify to move to the next CIMA level. There are 3 case study exams which you are required to sit at every level: Oper­a­tional Level Case Study, Man­age­ment Level Case Study & Strate­gic Level Case Study. There are four (4) cycles in which any case study can be writ­ten: Feb­ru­ary, May, August and Novem­ber.

Prac­ti­cal Experience

In addi­tion to pass­ing your exams, you will also need to gain rel­e­vant prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence in order to use the let­ters ACMA after your name and call your­self a Char­tered Man­age­ment Accountant.

Your Career Pro­file must include:

• an assess­ment of prac­ti­cal experience/​membership appli­ca­tion form, signed by a pro­poser and seconder
• an employ­ment summary
• a detailed record of your expe­ri­ence (CV)
• a record of skills development

At the very lat­est, you must make an appli­ca­tion within four years of com­plet­ing your final CIMA exam: Strate­gic Level Case Study. If you do not sub­mit your Career Pro­file within four years, you will be removed from the register.

We rec­om­mend once you have sucess­fully com­pleted the Man­age­r­ial level exams and have a min­i­mum of three years’ rel­e­vant prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence, you should sub­mit your Career Pro­file for assessment.
