About CIMA
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants is an internationally recognised accountancy body with an emphasis on the development of the management accounting profession. CIMA has 227,000 members and students in 179 countries.
Is CIMA for me?
Most accounting qualifications train people for private practice, working on external audit and tax issues. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions.
Qualifying as a Chartered Management Accountant will not only allow you to strengthen your position in the market place by giving you the expertise to do so, but will also allow you to add significant value to your organisation.
The Qualification (structure)
Examinations
Objective Tests (Operational, Management and Strategic levels)
All Operational, Management and Strategic level PC exams up until the new syllabus is released in January 2020, are examined via 90 minutes computer-based exams, which are held at CharterQuest Pearson VUE Exam Centres. The exams are available on-demand throughout the year. Booking a course with us does not automatically enter you for the exams; you must make sure you add exam fees during the booking process or book directly on our PC Exams Portal.
Integrated Case Study
In addition to sitting for your Objective Tests at each level you will need to sit for a 3 hour Case Study PC exam to qualify to move to the next CIMA level. There are 3 case study exams which you are required to sit at every level: Operational Level Case Study, Management Level Case Study & Strategic Level Case Study. There are four (4) cycles in which any case study can be written: February, May, August and November.
Practical Experience
In addition to passing your exams, you will also need to gain relevant practical experience in order to use the letters ACMA after your name and call yourself a Chartered Management Accountant.
Your Career Profile must include:
- an assessment of practical experience/membership application form, signed by a proposer and seconder
- an employment summary
- a detailed record of your experience (CV)
- a record of skills development
Once you have decided that CIMA is the route you would like to take, you will need to register as a student with CIMA. In order to find out more information about the registration process and the fees involved, Click here to be taken directly to the CIMA registration page.
At the very latest, you must make an application within four years of completing your final CIMA exam: Strategic Level Case Study. If you do not submit your Career Profile within four years, you will be removed from the register.
We recommend once you have sucessfully completed the Managerial level exams and have a minimum of three years’ relevant practical experience, you should submit your Career Profile for assessment.
